A Year Ago Today

A year ago today, at 7:30am, I woke up and had a delightful breakfast date with my husband at our local diner. Due to a few pre-labor signs, I was feeling about 85% sure that I would go into labor sometime later that day.

A year ago today, at 11am, I went to the elementary as the special guest of my kindergarten friend Grace. We had lunch together. I was quite the sensation with all of her kindergarten classmates who eyed and touched my very large belly with wonder and awe.

A year ago today, at 11:45am, I was the object of much pity from the teachers as I waddled after my elementary aged friends at recess.

A year ago today, I just felt kind of blah and yucky in my stomach for most of the day.

A year ago today, at 4pm, I realized as I was beginning to make supper that I had been having mild contractions for the last several hours that were somewhat regular. I started timing them to see if they were regulating at all.

A year ago today, at 6pm, I made a simple supper and then had everyone help tidy up the house.

A year ago today, at 8pm, my mother-in-law and I decided to have the kids spend the night at her house so we could avoid the middle of the night trip to drop them off. My contractions were still coming every 5-15 minutes.

A year ago today, at 8:30pm, I took a three mile long brisk (brisk to my very large pregnant waddling body) walk with my friend Julie to see if labor would progress while we were on our walk. Aaron texted me about every 15 minutes to see if I was still having contractions and if I was okay.

A year ago today, at 10pm, I attempted to go to sleep on my couch bed in the livingroom. I think I managed to get in two 45 minute naps each through the night. Contractions were still not regular, anywhere from 4-13 minutes apart, but their intensity level kept progressing.

A year ago tomorrow, at 6:30, I woke Aaron up. Even though my contractions weren't regular, they were getting very hard to focus through. I decided I wanted to head out to the hospital. He got up and get himself ready (including coffee and breakfast while I watched on somewhat impatiently).

A year ago tomorrow, at 8:00am, we arrived at the hospital. At first I was told I was only 2-3 cm dialated. A very short time later, they changed it to 6-7 cm dilated.

A year ago tomorrow, at 11:53am, we said hello to our large baby girl Keilah Rose, who weighed in at 9 lbs. 13 oz.

A year ago tomorrow, at 2:30pm, our three other kids arrived to get the first peek at their new baby sister. They were all grinning from ear to ear as they met her.

A year ago tomorrow, I couldn't begin to imagine the complete and utter joy this little girl would bring to our lives. I thank God daily for this lively little blessing that He gave us. Happy Birthday tomorrow, dear Keilah!
