Fringe Benefits

Image
Keilah is a back sleeper. I know it's highly recommended that all babies sleep on their backs for safety purposes. David was a good back sleeper, but my other two girls WOULD NOT sleep on their backs. They were both solid tummy sleepers. So I wasn't sure what to expect with Keilah, but she hated being on her tummy and would only fall asleep on her back or sides. This sleeping position produces fringe benefits. She has rubbed a bald spot on the back of her head. Right below her bald spot, is her leftover patch of long dark hair from birth. It is growing longer and remaining quite dark colored - my other kids had already turned much more blond by this age. We have a mullet in training. It makes me laugh.

April Fools

Image
Every year on April Fool's day, I try to come up with some fun food ideas for the kids. Past years have always been so much fun. Here is an example from last year . They are on to me now and keep asking if I'm going to make an April Fool's meal that day. I try to put them off and ended up telling them that I wasn't going to make a meal this year (which was true) since I didn't have time. David said, "That's what you say every year." What I did do this year was dig up some dirt and worms and put them in our fridge in some Styrofoam cups. When Ana saw them, she wondered why in the world did I have dirt and worms in the fridge. I let her know that I was going to be starting some seeds for our garden in the dirt and saw that I had some worms so I put them in the fridge for awhile until I had time to plant the seeds. She thought nothing strange with my explanation Abby was therefore quite horrified when Aaron came along and picked up a squirming wor

Still Cooking

Abby loves all things girly when it comes to clothes. I decided that with a few exceptions when it comes to modesty or for important occasions, I will not argue with her on her clothing choice. She loves to feel beautiful and her sense of beauty is different than my sense of beauty. Nearly everyday she wears a dress. To combat the cold winters and still be able to wear her favorite summery dresses, Abby opts to wear pants or leggings underneath and a long sleeved shirt over the top of her dress. They don't always match or go well together, but she feels like a princess. Sometimes she wears a dress up fairy skirt to school over her pants. Here she is in her newest dress. Normally we get hand-me-down dresses from a friend, but this one we bought new.  Another favorite activity is to steal my glasses and take self-portraits of herself. Or if she can't find anything of mine to steal, then just taking her picture will do. We're still plugging away on our cookbook ch

Scripture Bath

I had been feeling a little worn down and stressed out this morning. Part of it may have something to do with we have four showings and an open house today through Saturday and we have an inch of water currently standing in our basement. (Boo)  So I was feeling just kind of blah and sad about various circumstantial things, and decided enough was enough and took it all to God. He brought to mind in one quick moment various verses in the Bible that reminded me of his goodness to me. So I took a bit of time to soak in these words. Here they are in no particular order: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:9 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." - Isaiah 40:31 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be disma

Missing In Action

So apparently I haven't posted for awhile. For all you faithful blog readers (Mom), I apologize. I hadn't meant to let it go this long, but I did. I got caught up in several big projects and didn't get them off my plate until recently. One of the biggest things I did was to transition myself out of a job at our church. I've been the church administrator since we started and as we've grown, it has taken up more and more of my time. Juggling the demands of homeschooling, church work, motherhood with a newborn was just too much. My replacement is doing quite awesome and she has learned quickly, so now I'm only on call as needed which will be less and less as the weeks go by. That transition time took a lot of time as we were also in the process of getting an official church office so Aaron could have a place other than our bedroom/nursery/office room to work in. It's been an all around good thing.  The other major project we did was to put our house on the
