Whew!

We had such a busy weekend, but it was so full of awesome things!  I'm mostly recovered from all we have done.  Here's a quick rundown of the weekend: Saturday morning - take David to his band solo contest and be his accompanist while he plays his horn - he got a 1 rating. Saturday afternoon - make bread and cut up lots of fruits and vegetables for the evening church-wide celebration to end the week of prayer and fasting. Saturday - CLEAN THE HOUSE!!! Saturday evening - finish making supper (sandwiches, chips, fruit and veggies) for all the kids who will be dropped off at our house, welcome the babysitters, leave for our church worship time and have an AWESOME time together as a church.  I really deeply love the people of our church.  I couldn't ask for a better group of people to do life together. Saturday late evening - welcome the two missionaries from South Africa into our home - they will be staying in our house for the n...

Happy Days

Image
Hi again!  I had a nice post the other day and when I went to publish it, it disappeared, never to be found again.  I didn't feel like typing everything again, so I didn't.  Therefore a little longer than usual from my last post.  Sorry for those who check regularly for updates (Mom).  Anyway, we had a busy week last week.  We had out of town guests staying in our house Thursday-Saturday.  They stayed in the kids' rooms, which meant I had to find the floors and beds up there.  The kids and I worked quite hard and made things look quite lovely up there.  I'm quite pleased with ourselves.  I got to spend three days with my lovely friend Kim .  She's 32 weeks pregnant and in better shape than me - a bit depressing.  : )  We went on a long walk together Saturday morning and I told her to set the pace and distance.  We ended up walking 7 miles at a 15 min/mile pace.  I'm crazy impressed.  But she has also a...

Happy Heart

I had taken five nice pictures to share with you.  When I went to load them onto the computer, I realized that I had left my memory card in the computer while I was taking pictures, alas, there will be no picture for you to enjoy.  No, wait!  I just figured out that it went to my internal memory.  Not all is lost!!!  Oh happiness!  Okay, now that my crisis is averted, I will share with you some random things of the weekend that have made my heart happy.  1.  Friday morning, I decided to run to the coffee shop - 7.3 miles away.  It was a pleasant run, a bit dark to begin with, but it was nice to run there and feel ready to hang out with friends.  I wasn't too gross and smelly, or at least they didn't seem to be grossed out by me. 2.  Return visit to the coffee shop 40 minutes after leaving.  This time went with Aaron and Abby - much fun was had by all. 3.  a house that heats up without the heater being turned up....

School Fun

Image
On Friday, the kids were supposed to have their Friday classes, but they were cancelled since not all the snow had been plowed yet from the snow storm.  So we stayed home and decided to have a fun day in school since Friday classes are a highlight for the kids.  We've been reading about the ancient Greeks in history, so we tried our hand at building the Parthenon from gingerbread.  They had a lot of fun doing it (I did too).  But I think they had the most fun playing with the remaining dough and making various creations from that for me to bake.  We ate the Parthenon for dessert that night.  We also tried our hand at "stone carving" after looking at some of the amazing statues the Greeks carved.  We used Ivory bar soap.  It's nice and soft and can be carved with toothpicks and butter knives.  It made the house smell quite clean.  Here they are hard at work. We still have plans to make a Trojan horse at some point. ...

Weekend Fun!

We had a crazy awesome weekend here.  How was yours?  In my last post, I was dreaming of food due to our fast.  We ended it on Saturday evening when we met together as a church for some great time of prayer and worship together.  What a powerful night!  Amazing!  God did some pretty awesome things there.  And of course we got to end the night together enjoying a meal together - for some of us, the first taste of food in three days.  I struggled during the day as I made the food for the evening meal, but since I was already on the home stretch, I knew I could last a few more hours.  I made some homemade bread (made the house smell SOOOO good - if I could eat the air, I would have).  I also made some homemade chicken noodle soup.  I will admit that I sampled the broth a few times to make sure it was seasoned properly.  I didn't do that last year when we did this and I thought it tasted a little bland last year.  You don't wa...
