Our 4th of July

We had a great day yesterday with the 4th of July celebrations going on around town. It was very full, but also very fun. The morning started off bright and early with a 5K run through town. David, Ana, and Aaron all ran it. The race course runs right by our house, so Abby, Keilah, and I waited on our front porch to watch our favorite runners pass by. David (in red) was in 5th at this point. He finished 3rd overall and won his age group. He was pleased! Aaron (in black and gold) finished a bit behind him.
Ana ran it with her best friend TJ. Here they are happily running by a few minutes later.
Our local bank is sponsoring kids little lemonade stands by giving them a cute little start up kit. There were many little lemonade stands up and down the parade route. Abby and Ana had one and got a few sales from it. Abby got it set up while Ana was finishing up her run.
The parade route is also right by our house (we picked a good spot to live!), so we got to see our favorite trumpet player march by in the marching band. Go David!
Keilah had fun watching most things go by. I was afraid that she would be freaked out by the fire trucks and their sirens, but she took it all in stride. She enjoyed clutching the few pieces of candy she got her hands on and made a few friends so that they would unwrap it for her to stuff in her mouth. I think she ate more candy yesterday than she's ever had in her life combined.

Cute little girl with her candy bucket.
After the parade, we had a potluck lunch at our house with whoever came to our yard to watch the parade. Then in the afternoon, Abby and I took Keilah up to the park for the free fun they had going on there. We spent most of our time on the playground going down this slide. Even though the picture doesn't show her joy, she loved every minute of the slide and kept going down again and again.
Here's a little video of one of her trips down the slide, complete with her funny little leg kick she does at the end to get herself off the slide.
The swings weren't doing it for Keilah unless she was on the ground pushing them herself.
They had free pony rides and Abby took advantage of that. Keilah was too busy wanting a "gink" from the water fountain to care about anything else.
Following that, we ate supper at the chicken dinner fundraiser (yummy! but not enough food given to my growing continuously hungry boy). Once it was dark, we watched the evening fireworks just a few blocks from our house at the school. We weren't sure how Keilah would react to them. We got her up a few hours after her bedtime to come out and see them. She was quite frightened for awhile and cried. We were about ready to have one of us take her home, but then Aaron took her for a bit and got her to be able to tolerate them. She spent the remainder of the show clinging to me and pointing to each one while I oohed and aahed to show her they were cool instead of frightening. Sorry, no pictures of this.
All in all, we had a great day. The kids woke up very early this morning to help with the clean-up of the mess with the fireworks at the golf course before it started to rain too hard. They got a donut breakfast as a thank you. I think we'll all have an early bedtime tonight! I hope you all had a great day yesterday too!
