Saturday Morning Eccentricities

What, your husband doesn't lounge around in his courderoy vest, tie, and pocket watch on Saturday morning preparing for his Sunday sermon? And your daughters don't inhale half of a watermelon in 15 minutes? And your son doesn't wander around the house randomly quacking and mooing? Yeah, my family doesn't do that either.

War On Squash Bugs

Before I begin my squash bug saga, I want to say I am impressed by the tooth trauma many of you have experienced.  I got quite the few stories on here and on facebook.  Glad to know David is not alone in his missing tooth.  He gets his new tooth on the 30th of this month.  He is doing fine with waiting and not being all that self-conscious from what I can tell.  The joy of boys! So now to my originally scheduled post: Every year, I plant zucchini and summer squash looking forward to using up the bounty in many different ways, and every year I am disappointed when rabid squash bugs come in and destroy my plants in a matter of days.  This year, I decided to declare war on them.  In case you are not familiar with what they look like, here is a lovely picture for you: I researched online about the best way to fight them off and while some companion plantings work okay (marigolds are supposed to help - but my marigolds are suffering in the heat and lack ...

Field Trip

Okay, I'm finally getting around to putting our pictures on from our field trip yesterday.  We spent the day at Bloomsbury Farms.  A fellow homeschooling mom/friend of mine took her family here and inspired me to take my kiddos here too for a day of fun.  It was a great change of pace from doing school and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  Below are pictures of the some of the highlights of the day.  Probably the biggest attraction to the kids was the jumping pillow.  A mammoth trampoline like thing to jump around on.  We spent probably a good hour and a half or more playing on this.  I took pictures for a little while, but it looked like too much fun to not join in.  So I worked the rest of the kinks out of my sore muscles and joined in the festivities.
