Girls Night Becomes Girl Night

Image
Aaron and David are at the State CC meet this weekend. So tonight, it was just me and the girls.  We decided to have a girls night in.  Once they girls got home from school this afternoon and finished up their couple of chores, we went down to the grocery store to get provisions.  I haven't been in much of a cooking mood lately (which is normally not like me), so we bought a rotisserie chicken for our supper.  I did steam some carrots and boil a couple of potatoes.  The roll is from a friend who supplies us with all sorts of goodness. To properly have a girls night, one must eat supper in your Goodwill bargain fairy dress.  It also helps to make goofy faces when your mom tries to take your picture. The other two essential items we got at the grocery store were a rented movie and a cup of ice cream.  We rented Madagascar 3.  Despite it being the third movie of a popular first movie, I actually enjoyed it. You should know that it's not ...

Chickens, Fairies, and Cravings

Image
We've been taking care of my in-laws chickens while were gone this past week.  I wait until the girls get home from school to do this chore, as they love to help! While the chickens are let out to get some exercise, dust baths, and fresh air, the girls happily go tromping off through the woods to build fairy houses. They had already put the roof on by the time I got there to take a picture, so you can't see all the cute little furnishings they made for the fairies on the inside. The one day I did bring my camera was the day it was just about ready to start raining.  Therefore, these pictures in the woods look dark and dreary.  Just imagine beautiful afternoon sunlight streaming through the golden leaves and you'll have every day except this one.  :) Yesterday, the girls found an exceptionally large egg in the coop.  We suspected it might be a double egg. We cracked it open for breakfast this morning.  Yep, a double egg it was! ...

Updates

Well, I reached my walking goal last week.  I walked 11.6 miles.  That made my short week the week before average out to a little past my 10 mile/week goal.  Yea!  I'm on track for this week to get the distance in as long as nothing unusual happens. I had my 16 week check-up today.  Everything is looking good.  Next appointment is my ultrasound.  I hope by then we will have decided that we want to find out the gender of the baby.  And by "we", I mean Aaron.  : )  Being that I have no baby items left, I'd like to know what to prepare for.  I've already had to pass up several amazing garage sales with baby items in them because they were all gender specific clothing.  Argh!  Softball season is almost over.  I had lots of girls missing this week due to camp.  Despite that, and having to bring up three t-ball girls to have a complete team with our last two games, we won both of those games!  What fun...

Bad Mom and Sewing Pictures

Image
Today as I was walking into the house, something caught my eye that made me stop and come back to look a little more closely. This is one of the girls' little dolls that they like to play with.  When I asked why she was hanging by her feet submerged in the puddle I was told that she was being a "bad mom".  Should I be nervous about my future nursing home placement?  If I'm ever found hanging by my feet half submerged in a muddy puddle, you'll know who did it and why it was done.  I was a bad mom.  But I think this mom's infractions were more serious than mine - I couldn't get the full picture of her sins as there was too much giggling going on, but it sounded as if she was being equally mean to her children.  For the record, I have never tied my daughters up by their feet and left them half submerged in a muddy puddle.  I felt like I should clear the air on that one. And on a completely different note, here is a picture of the quilt I ...

Snow Day!

Image
We got a good snow last night.  We woke up to a fairly large pile of it on the ground.  Since we live in town, we're nice and protected on all sides of us and don't get as much as those out in the country where major drifts can pile up.  But we still got a lot for us.  This is out our back door.  There's a good six inch step to the little deck area from the door, so it had piled up above that as you can see.  Need to shovel those steps! Here's the view out our front door.  Sorry for the poor quality of pictures.  I didn't want to go out and get a nice one.  This was just a quick shot from the front door.  Probably piled up over a foot in areas (I know it doesn't look like it in the pictures).  Our awesome neighbor came out this morning and used his snowblower to clean off our sidewalk and also our entire driveway!  What a great neighbor we have! So what do we do on a snow day?  Why school, of course!  We have no reas...
